Cinnamon for the King:
One of my favor spices today is the cinnamon! The aroma of fresh cinnamon rolls, cinnamon toasts, cinnamon tea capture my attention all the time. Walking in a bakery the scent of cinnamon just lure me in hook line and sinker.
It was around the 3rd millennium or 2500 B.C. that the Egyptian spice trade was booming and cinnamon sticks were introduced along with the birth of civilization.
Cinnamon became a hit with the Kings, rulers and servants who served them.
Cinnamon is a small evergreen tree belonging to the Lauracea family which is native to Sri Lanka. This spice is obtained from the tree bark.
In the year 1518 the Portuguese traders finally landed in Ceylon, Sri Lanka. At the beginning of the sixteen century and restructured the traditional production of cinnamon by the Sinhalese.
Today cinnamon is harvested by growing the tree for two years and then cutting the tree down to the stump. The next year, about a dozen shoots will form from the roots. The branches harvested this way are scraping off the bark and beating it with a hammer to loosen the inner bark. Once it is dry, the bark is cut and sold.
You can buy it ground, always check the date for freshness or you can buy it in sticks. Once you start to brew that cinnamon in your tea, or on a couple pieces of toasts you will notice the amora will filled the house.
