Food Dehydrator

Living in Texas, many people complain of the heat of the summer evening. As a kid we did not think of the heat as heat. Heat was a time to bring out the water holes and shower everyone in the neighborhood with a burst of cool water.

It was a time to walk in the heat to the area swimming pool. Schools turn out for about 104 days and the summer days were upon us. Day after day the temperature reached 100 degrees. Some days 102 degrees and some day it was 100 degrees in the shade and 104 degrees the minute you left the shaded area.

Just like the walk to the swimming pool took moisture and energy away form us.

The Texas sun will take the moisture away from any fruit left out in the sun for days. This is truly the natural process of drying fruits. It may take a longer time but the Texas sun has never fail to dry up what has been moist throughout the summer.

After watching the natural process of dried fruit, someone came up with the idea of the Food dehydrator. This machine uses heat and airflow to reduce the moisture in fruits. Once 80-95% of the moisture is removed from fruits you have dried fruits.

A good example of a dried fruit was the grapes. When grapes are place in the food dehydrator for a few hours the end results is call raisins. This dried version of raisins is hard on the outside and soft on the inside.

Raisins may have been the first fruit to be dried naturally. Today, almost any kind of fruits can be dehydrator including tomatoes.

Dehydrator of fruits help stop bacteria, provides a longer shelf life without the use of trans fat. More fruits can be eating. Thus raising the amount of fruits one get on a daily base.

Dehydrator fruits is darker and richer than the original fruits. Dried fruits are eaten more by the hand full and kids will love that. Mom’s will know that the vitamins and carbohydrates are still there.
